Demystifying the Vision Board

You’ve probably seen a million ‘Vision Boards’ on Instagram or Pinterest and wondering what on earth they are, why people make them, and maybe even how to do one for yourself!

Well look no further! We’ve been doing a bunch of personal development work recently, and a Vision Board is now part of our life. So we’re here to help de-mystify the what, why and how of Vision Boards, with an easy to follow step by step process.

Envisage and You Shall Manifest

Have you ever had an ‘strange’ and ‘random’ experience that seemed way too unlikely to have been a simple ‘coincidence’? Maybe you were thinking about someone and then received a phone call from them minutes later, or you ask for a ‘sign’ to help you with a difficult decision and boom, and then it appears? Call it chance if you will, but we believe this is the Universe at work – and you manifested it! (it’s all about the Law of Attraction baby!)

And that’s what Vision Boards are all about. It’s based on the principle that a universal life energy exists which is primed to help you attract the feelings, thoughts and outcomes you desire for your life. But it works both ways, so if you focus on negative outcomes, they tend to happen (via a self-fulfilling prophecy). But focus on the positive, and you will be amazed at how this life force shows up for you and delivers! It’s just about trusting in it and taking inspired action!

What is a Vision Board?

A Vision Board is simply a collection of images (quotes or pictures) that are a visual representation of your goals for the future, which allows you focus on and manifest them. For us, our Vision Board is based on our dream life! So the goals stretch across our business, family and health.

Why Create a Vision Board?

They say that writing down your goals on paper helps you achieve them, but creating a Vision Board is that extra step to make the manifesting even more powerful! Why? Visualisation is extremely powerful to the mind. When we see something (especially if it is what we want), it lights our brain up.

Vision Boards give clarify exactly what you want life, so you can then focus on going out and getting them! It’s all about having a clear vision for your life first, so that you can take inspired action to make it happen! Everything is energy in this world – true potentiality. So this process allows you to tap into this potential and harness it for yourself!

We have come to realise that everything we think, say and feel creates our reality. This means we have the power to manifest our dream life, and how we live our life is our CHOICE. So a Vision Board helps us realise our true potential, based on our ability to desire and then attract what we it is we truly want from life!

How to Create a Vision Board – Step by Step

1. Write down your goals

Think about how do you want to feel, (both when you look at the Vision Board, and when you actually achieve your goals)! Think of words and quotes that speak to you! Our board is a collection of words that mean a lot to us, such as ‘authentic self’ ‘inspired leaders’, ‘abundance’ and ‘vibrant health’. A Vision Board is for dreaming big, so if you’re seeking that dream home and it seems far off, put it up anyway! The universe won’t know you desire this if you don’t put it out to the world!

Other things to consider are:

  • What gets you excited in life?
  • How do you want your relationships to be? This can include with your partner/family – but also yourself! ie what self care and self love rituals do you want to create?
  • What are your money goals? Eg are you looking to bring abundance into your life? What does this look like for you?
  • What are your career goals?
  • How can you be of service to the world?
  • Do you have a dream holiday destination?
  • Do you have lifestyle aspirations like beachside living or a property in the country?
  • Do you have attributes or traits that you are looking to embody? ie being your authentic self, an inspired leader etc

Make sure they are heart centred and inspiring. The kind of goals that make you want to jump out of bed in the morning. Remember – this is YOUR dream life that you are manifesting here!

2. Choose the Pictures and Quotes that Represent Your Dream Life

Images can be more powerful than words. So choose images that stir up an emotion inside of you. Every time you look at that picture, you will be reminded of that feeling of what you want to achieve. For us, looking at our Vision Board reminds us of not only our goals, but our ‘why’.

You can gain heaps of inspiration from all over the internet, but our fave way is to use Pinterest. You can create a ‘Vision Board’ Pinterest board which will help you gather all of your ideas in one area.

Use your own pictures if need be – there may be a picture from a holiday that makes you feel free, and you want to return to that feeling or do more travel.

The pictures do not need to be ‘specific’ per se. As we mentioned, it is all about what feeling that image/quote stirs up inside of you. For eg. we have a picture of a full moon. To us, that full moon represents the ebb and flow of life according to the moon phases: setting intentions, taking action and releasing what no longer serves us each month. That’s personal to us (we even stayed up until 1am watching the super blue blood moon back in January 2018 – we just love the power of the moon), so find what speaks to you!

 3. Compile Your Board

To put it all together, you’ll need your actual board. We have in the past used a wire board from Kmart, and our current vision board is a cork board, but you can also use cardboard if you wish.

Next, simply print your pictures (preferably in colour for extra impact), cut them all out and arrange them on the board. We grouped the pictures with the words so it became a theme. For example our business and abundance goals are in one area, our vibrant health goals are in one area, another area has pictures and quotes to do with being our authentic self, there is also an area for aligning and attracting, and self love.

Once you’re happy with the layout, stick, pin or peg your pictures onto your board (depending on which one you go with).

4. Display Your Vision Board

Make sure you hang board in a high traffic area in your home! Somewhere you will see it many times a day – just to remind you of what you’re striving towards!

5. Keep Working at it – Every Day!

Now having a vision board and manifesting is all well and good, but make sure you take inspired action – every day! Look at your vision board everyday, know it inside out, and before you know it you will be manifesting your dreams!

There is no right or wrong with a vision board! It’s all about what feelings, goals and desires you have, and what the board evokes in you! The above is what has worked for us, take what you like from our advice and do what works for you.

Use Essential Oils to Supercharge Your Manifesting

This one is a must! We love using a particular blend on when writing down our goals, it really anchors us to our goals! Our favourite manifestation blend at the moment is Wild orange (the oil of abundance), Ginger (the oil of empowerment) and Patchouli (the oil of physicality) but you can create your own manifesting blend based on what oils speak to you!
